I don't want a frame. Is this able to be painted on canvas or wood? Do you recommend a better option?

Canvas and wood boards are both acceptable.

By default it is painted on canvas, which is the cotton-based cloth material that can be rolled up. This can be stretched onto stretcher bars, sometimes called a gallery wrap. This stretched piece is then framed if you choose the framing option.
