Do you mean split an image into two diptychs? That's totally fine. You can order a single 20x48 or 40x24 painting and ask the artist to split into two separate pieces or stretched panels (if you order the gallery wrap option). You can also order two 20x24 paintings and split the image yourself, but keep in mind in this option two different artists may complete the order and there could be slight differences in colors.
